Be Yourself And ” Stay Weird”

I just read an article someone wrote about the new Weird Barbie that Mattel is releasing as part of their line of dolls based on the characters in the Barbie movie. According to this person, Mattel has missed the point of the Weird Barbie movie character. I disagree.

Having seen the movie, my takeaway about Weird Barbie is that she sends a message about individuality, self-love, and acceptance. By including a doll based on her character, I feel Mattel not only got the point of that message, but agrees with it wholeheartedly.

To me, including a Weird Barbie in their lineup shows just how inclusive and accepting Mattel is. Which is, sadly, more than can be said about a lot of people in this world.

When someone is perceived ” different,” or ” weird,” they are often shunned. Unjustly so, I might add. Case in point, in the movie, at first, Weird Barbie is spoken of as someone who should be feared. It is only after Margot Robbie’s Stereotypical Barbie comes to Weird Barbie for help, does it come to light that there is no reason to be afraid of her. During the course of the movie, as she helps reprogram the rest of the Barbies, they too come to see her in the same light and ultimately accept her for who she is. If only that would happen more in the real world.

No matter what’s going on in your life, even if you’re always in the splits, always remember that you are ” Kenough.” So just be yourself and ” Stay Weird.”
